Fall Newsletter

Gamma Iota chapter has been off to a busy start this fall semester with a lot of successful events, including recruitment!

To kick-off the first week back to school our chapter co-hosted the Annual Teeter-Totter Fundraiser with Alpha Epsilon Pi. This year the proceeds went to Special Olympics, one of our national philanthropies. We had beautiful weather all week and were able to raise $665!

This Fall Fraternity and Sorority Life at RIT held Formal Recruitment for all 5 sororities of College Panhellenic Council (CPC). This year we were able to give bids to 13 girls based on the recruitment quota and then gave 5 additional continuous open bids before our Phoenix degree. CPC has also decided to re-evaluate total for all sororities 72 hours after bid night to adjust total to the median chapter size. This year total was readjusted to 57 members. Due to this reason this will be our only recruitment for this year.
Below are the 18 amazing women that have joined our chapter!
(From left to right. Top: Jennifer Williams, Lizzie Odom, Sydney Herring, Vanessa Cannon, Michele Zaken, Maggie Reading, Melissa Chameleon, Jessica Gallagher, Lauren Vik, Emma Kate Flanagan and Cortney McArdell. Front: Gracie Koester, Dallaslyn Lamb, Alex Douchette, Kristina Giordano, Sara Providenti, Stephanie Sowa and Kaycee Pozniakas)

On September 27th Gamma Iota Chapter teamed up with Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity at RIT to volunteer at the Special Olympics Fall Classic in Pittsford, NY. There were teams that came to participate from all over the region in addition to one team from Canada. Athletes competed in a 5K Cross Country Race, Soccer skills stations, Softball skills stations and regulation Soccer and Softball games.

Upcoming Events:
Scholarship Day- October 4
Plunge a Brother/ Sister Fundraiser with Phi Sigma Kappa- October 7-9
Homecoming Alumnae and Family BBQ- October 18

I hope everyone is doing well and are having a wonderful Fall so far. If you have any questions or would like details about any of our upcoming events please feel free to email asavpofalum@gmail.com!

So Much Alpha Love to all <3

March Newsletter

Hi Everyone!,
I am Juliana Shaw the new Vice President of Alumnae and Heritage. I hope that all the alumnae have been receiving information in the mail the past few weeks about the 50 year and have been going onto the link to register for the weekend. If you have yet to hear anything from the house about this event then here are the basics that everyone needs to know:
The events will run from 7 pm on Friday March 2nd until 1 pm on Sunday March 4th. All the specific details are outlined on the registration link (https://secure.www.alumniconnections.com/olc/pub/RIT/event/showEventForm.jsp?form_id=169745), including locations and specific descriptions. If you don't receive a mailing within the next few weeks, it is probably because the alumni office didn't have an updated address in their system. We have a few extra copies on hand to send out to those of you that don't receive it so just email us at asavpofalum@gmail.com to request one to be sent. The house has been busy preparing all the details of this event and are really excited to see all of you in a few short months. Below are some of the other various activities that we have been up to!

At the end of January the house held their Annual Awards Dinner at Marios Italian Restaurant. The night was filled with plenty of laughs and of course, the good company of sisters!

On February 9th, sisters took the plunge to help support Special Olympics. This year our chapter teamed up with Phi Sigma Kappa of RIT to organize and "RIT Team" that raised $8,861, which was well over the goal we set for the team. Alpha Sigma Alpha and Phi Sigma Sigma sponsored breakfast for the team before going off to the plunge. Next year the sweatshirts will be made in RIT colors, since we were the school that raised the most money!
On February 23rd, 13 young women went through the Phoenix Degree to become a part of the Spring 2014 New Member Class (NMC 111) The members of the new class are as follows:
Emily Becker
Jessica Belcher
Danielle Conforti
Alyssa Jackson
Kathryn Johnson
Julie Kamine
Grace Milton
Ashley Murphy Shaw
Emily Napoleone
Nina Peskanov
Claire Ryan
Cassidy Tallman
Anna Vera

Novemeber Update

Its been a busy October for Gamma Iota! On October 19th we joined along side the Wells Project (An RIT organization dedicated to raising money to build water wells in areas of need) to host a powder-puff tournament. The results- none of us plan on dropping out of school to become professional football players anytime soon, but we still had a great time!

Founders day!

On November 16th 2013 we will be hosting an FIPG approved founders day event. The event will take place at McGinnys located at 2246 East River Road Rochester at 6 pm.  For more information and details on the event please contact our banquet chairs Megan Keenan and Danielle Turenne (mlk1645@g.rit.edu and dmt9337@g.rit.edu).

Camp Good Days Benefit Game

On October 26th Gamma Iota joined forces with the RIT mens soccer team to raise awareness and funds (we raised $347.66) for Camp Good Days which is an organization that provides children who are in hospitals the opportunity to attend a camp under safe conditions. Although the event was hosted in the windy freezing cold of Rochester, it was still really successful.

October 2013

Hello Alum and Parents!!

The monthly newsletter is a new concept for the chapter so I am still trying to find the best way to create it each month. My major is environmental sustainability so I have very little computer skills and the way I was previously making the newsletter was a big pain. As a result I am going to try and create newsletters on this website each month.

FALL CLASS 2013! (NMC 110)

On Tuesday September 24th 10 lovely ladies went through the Phoenix Degree and started their journey to becoming active sisters. From left to right Jennifer Love, Jen Brousseau, Brenna Lewis, Kate Sullivan, Adrienne Michalakis, Lauren Berger, Julia Okvath, Allie Ford, Jessi Ramage, and Allison Friedman. Gamma Iota is super excited to have these 10 new additions!

UP COMING EVENTS

Founders Day!

This year Gamma Iota is hosting a founders day celebration! It will be November 16th! All alumnae are invited. For more information and details on the event please contact our banquet chairs Megan Keenan and Danielle Turenne (mlk1645@g.rit.edu and dmt9337@g.rit.edu)

50 Year Celebration!

As you all know the 50 year anniversary of Gamma Iota is coming up in May! The event is planned out, we are just waiting on the invitations to be printed out, envelopes stuffed, and then mailed out! If you have any questions about the event feel free to contact me at asavpofalum@gmail.com. Don't forget to like https://www.facebook.com/asa50year to stay up to date on the event!

Also, I will be setting up a google doc as the event comes closer to determine what local sisters have available housing and how many people they can fit, and what sisters coming into town need housing for the weekend to help alleviate travel costs. It should be noted we will not be booking a block hotel (there was not enough interest in doing this) but with the invitations will come local hotel information.

Also we have over 700 alumnae and I know I have not be successful in contacting all 700 of them, so please reach out to your pledge class, to your big and your little and make sure they are aware of the event and have my contact information if they aren't getting these updates.

Teeter Totter Results

The check for $344 has been sent to Voices Against Brain Cancer! The donation was submitted as a part of the 2013 donations for VABC's sponsored event, Run for Rob.
